Quake artwork. Classic Quake logo with black foreground and green background.

Quake®

QUAKE is a first-person shooter released by id Software in 1996 and the first game in the popular QUAKE series of video games. In the game, players must find their way out of various maze-like, medieval environments while battling a variety of monsters using a wide array of guns.

The successor to id's DOOM series, QUAKE built upon the technology and gameplay of its predecessor in many ways. After DOOM helped popularize multiplayer deathmatches, QUAKE added various multiplayer options. Online multiplayer became increasingly common, with the QuakeWorld update and software such as QuakeSpy making the process of finding and playing against other competitors on the Internet far easier and more reliable. QUAKE inspired the creation of QuakeCon and the beginning of the global esports phenomenon more than 20 years ago.

The original QUAKE was followed by QUAKE II, QUAKE III Arena, and QUAKE 4. Now QUAKE is back with QUAKE Champions: a free-to-play PC shooter that embraces competitive play and a true esports experience. Lightning fast – running at 120hz – QUAKE Champions combines fast, skill-based gameplay with Champions that allow players to tweak and hone their strategies. Quake Champions is currently available for free on PC.
